Take Some Underwater Photos
Whenever you dive into water and explore underwater nature, you enjoy its beauty and perhaps think of taking some underwater photos.
If you want to try underwater photography, you should get a waterproof digital camera.
There are many good waterproof cameras nowadays. Here’s a couple that I found:
- Canon PowerShot D10. This camera is waterproof (up to 32 feet deep) and shockproof (it won’t break if you drop it from 4 feet). It is also dustproof and freezeproof (up to 50F degree). It has a 12.1 MP resolution and 3X optical zoom. It costs about $280-350.
The only minus is that Canon PowerShot D10 is a little bulky and might be not comfortable for underwater usage.
- Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 is another great waterproof (up to 10-foot deep) camera. It is shakeproof, freezeproof (up to 14F degrees), and shockproof (from a 5-foot drop). It has a 10 MP resolution, 3.6X optical zoom and 5X digital zoom. It also has a 42 MB built-in memory and functions for face detection and image stabilization. You can freely take this camera into a pool or ocean, but later you should wash it under fresh running water to remove the salt or the chemicals.
- Most importantly, it looks like a normal point-and-shoot camera with no special signs of a waterproof camera. It costs about $190-230.
Here are several things you should pay attention to when choosing a waterproof digital camera:
- Check if the camera is sealed tightly. Even the tiniest hole can kill the camera as soon as it is taken underwater.
- Make sure that the camera has all the necessary functions: a wide aperture for low-light conditions, shake reduction, a good battery and, of course, a good memory card.
- Make sure it is small enough to fit in your hand while swimming.
- Buy one with a bright color, so you find it easily in the water if you drop it.
- You should also ask the shop assistant if you can use the camera in pools. If not, don’t buy it because the chlorine will damage it.
